Anissa Stovall a graduate from Texas State University is originally from Gonzales Texas and moved to Austin Texas at a young age. Anissa is a single mother of three adult children, a 10-year old and two beautiful granddaughters.
Most recently, this year in February, I lost my 21-year-old son Jordan. Jordan was killed by police while suffering from a manic episode. It was a day that I will never forget. As I sat in grief daily, I would ask God “Why Me”, then after not getting any reasonable answer, I started asking God “What is it that you want me to learn from this tragedy”? Then one day God spoke to me so clearly, he put it in my heart to help young adults that suffer from mental illness and to help their parents/caregivers.
On March 23, 2021, Jordan’s Safe Place was officially created as a Non-Profit in Texas. Here at Jordan’s Safe place we provide financial assistance for mental health care needs; gas, utility assistance, monthly family well checks, and Jordan Christmas (holiday dinner and gifts). Our future goals are to provide a safe place for individuals suffering from mental health to seek help, long term housing for young adults suffering from mental health, and Jordan’s Healing Farm and Garden.
My heart is hurting but I know God’s plan is bigger than anything that I could have imagined. It is my desire to help others that have to travel the road of mental illness and the heartache that comes with it. I cannot take away their worries or burdens but I can be supportive to them in their time of need, all while remembering my son Jordan.
Recent studies show that 75% of young adults surveyed, suffer or experience some form of anxiety or mental health. If you know of anyone in need, please reach out to:
